Manufactured homes are constructed in a climate controlled factory. The house is built on a steel frame that also serves as a chassis for transportation to the project site. Once on-site the home is placed on a permanent pier foundation and the wheels and axles are removed from the frame.
Manufactured homes are built to Federal HUD code regulations and inspections of the homes take place during construction and after the set. These codes establish a series of construction and safety standards that ensure that today’s manufactured homes are superior to “mobile homes,” the term used prior to the introduction of the HUD code.
